In November, President Biden signed a $1 trillion infrastructure bill into law. In total, $5 billion was specifically designed to improve school buses. Districts across the country will have an opportunity to upgrade their fleet.

As of last year, fewer than 1% of all school buses nationwide were electric. Here in Indiana, we rank outside the top ten states with the most electric school buses.

Of the half a million school buses currently active in the United States, approximately 95% run on diesel. Collectively, these buses account for roughly 5 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Although technical advances have converted traditional diesel into clean diesel, this infrastructure bill will make electric school buses more popular.
