The Big School Bus Trend You Will See In 2023

There’s one big trend in school buses.

Districts are going small.

With the continued difficulty of hiring drivers who hold a CDL, schools are looking at other options.

Type A buses offer a compact solution. Districts all over the country are adding these to their fleet to allow more hiring flexibility. In many states, buses that carry 14 or fewer passengers do not require a CDL. However, here in Indiana, drivers are required to get a yellow card.

“We are seeing an increased demand for 14-passenger Type A buses as schools find it harder to acquire and keep drivers,” said Melanie Zehr, Vice President of Kerlin Bus Sales & Leasing. “I have no doubt that the Thomas Minotour and MyBus are the toughest Type A on the road.”

These options from Thomas Built Buses both pack a punch. If you are in the market to expand your school bus fleet, the Minotour® and MyBus® are two names you will want to know.

Minotour®

The Minotour® is a yellow Type A school bus. It’s equally efficient and maneuverable. Despite its size, this vehicle is big on safety. Unlike most passenger vans, it meets or exceeds all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS). In addition, roof tests are passed at a weight much higher than federal requirements.

MyBus®

MyBus® is a Type A Multifunctional School Activity Bus (MFSAB). With the need for a CDL removed, coaches can drive their teams to games while also displaying school spirit. By meeting all federal safety standards, MyBus® is just as safe as its yellow counterparts. The only difference is it cannot stop traffic. In addition to schools, this bus is an excellent option for churches, clubs, childcare centers, and more.
